Broad Run Corner is the place to get award-winning, local, hand-crafted, high-quality cheese.

Any season is a great time for families to make a day of Broad Run Corner. Autumn, in particular, is a time of the year when the fall foliage warms us up to the

thought of fires by the Christmas tree. There’s a hustle to put the finishing touches on the holidays. But we’re already making lasting memories, whether we’re buying gifts, planning Thanksgiving dinner or finding the perfect Christmas tree. We need to make the most of the time in between.

For many families, the traditional kick-off to the holiday season is a trip to Broad Run Corner. In making a day of the cheese house, winery and restaurant, they make the most of their time together with the holidays fast approaching.

There’s a lot to celebrate at Broad Run Corner.

This year marked the second anniversary of the founder’s namesake restaurant, Hans’ Place, and the inaugural run of the signature dry red, Cornerstone, at the Swiss Heritage Winery.

“It’s nice to sit out on the deck,” Broad Run Corner President Chad Schindler said. “Mom and Dad can have a glass of wine. Trail Bologna is great with Swiss cheese, and it’s always a family favorite.”

Broad Run Corner invites visitors to relax, explore the grounds and savor the food.

“The deck is very peaceful, and in the fall very colorful,” Schindler said. “Instead of looking out, you’re looking up into woods. It’s a natural amphitheater.”

On Saturdays Han’s Place features live music from 6:30-9:30 p.m., and down below, the deli offers the same fine foods on the menu.

“You can pick up sandwich slices of Trail Bologna, which a lot of locals like to send out of state, and we take care of that right in the deli,” Schindler said.

It’s also a place where people get the Thanksgiving platter off their plate.

In addition to Cornerstone, the signature dry red, there are 20 other wines to sample.

Swiss Heritage’s Doggone Good wine took home two platinum awards from the 2018 Monterey International Wine Competition, beating out many California wineries in their category.

Broad Run Corner is still a place to get award-winning, local, hand-crafted, high-quality cheese. Visitors will always remember Hans Schindler — they can spot his Alpine hat displayed proudly high on a shelf in Hans’ Place. But above all, the cheese house he founded is the foundation of Broad Run Corner and always will be. With the inclusion of the Swiss Heritage Winery, it’s become a place to get wine worthy of the same stature.

Wine and cheese go great together, especially topped with a bow around the holidays.

“We have premade gift boxes that we’ve paired ourselves, and gift boxes can be made to order too,” Schindler said.

The best memories are shared and — after we untie the bow — last into the new year and the years after.
