Historic DowntownMillersburg

Take a step back in time to Historic Downtown Millersburg. Strung along Jackson Street through the center of town, you’ll find lovingly preserved 19th century buildings that house an authentic array of shops, boutiques, restaurants, art galleries and museums.

Considered the gateway to Ohio’s Amish Country, the entire district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History buffs can stay at the same hotel that former President Grover Cleveland did back in 1900. Hotel Millersburg named its restaurant in his honor—Grover’s Tavern. As the third oldest continuously operating hotel in Ohio (circa 1847), it celebrates historic moments captured in time.

You can explore the intersection of history, art and architecture at the Victorian House Museum, which features 28 rooms of Holmes County history, and an impressive collection of Victorian Era furniture, paintings and decor. Don’t miss the museum’s lower level, home to the Millersburg Glass Museum. It proudly displays the rare collection of world-renowned glassmaker John Fenton.

Eclectic specialty shops and boutiques range from European-style and Western-influenced clothing and home decor, to art and antiques, artisan goods and Native American jewelry.

When it comes to food and drink in downtown Millersburg, you’ll find that “from scratch” is the preferred practice and establishments range from casual cafes, breweries and pubs to fine dining.

Folks come from far and wide to enjoy the family-made soft-serve sweets at Miller’s Creamery. And the third generation at Troyer’s Sweet Shoppe is still making its famous chocolates and fudge the same way it has for more than 60 years. For a lesson in how locally sourced ingredients in their peak season can elevate dining, don’t miss a newer eatery, The Cider Press. Each dish is crafted with care to reflect the rich flavors of the region.

Beer aficionados won’t want to miss Millersburg Brewing Company, which features more than 20 beers, ciders, stouts, porters, IPAs, seltzers and ales on tap. Complementing the renowned craft brews is a pub fare menu of burgers, sandwiches and pure comfort foods.

Looking for more active pursuits than shopping or dining? Head to the 26 scenic miles of paved surface trails within the Holmes County Park District. With well-kept lanes for bikers, hikers and horse and buggy traffic, the trails provide a corridor to take in the picturesque and pastoral views of Ohio’s heartland.

Seasonal events inspire you with all the things this charming hamlet does best—Chocolate Walks, shopping at Girls Night Out, family fun at Hop Around Millersburg, Independence celebration at Thunder Over Holmes County, Holmes County Art Festival and Boo in the Burg Ohio Wine & Craft Beer festival.

With so much to discover, take your time, slow down and savor every moment. Make a day of it—make a stay of it—in Historic Downtown Millersburg.
