If you’re interested in an Amish-style sewing adventure, you’ve come to the right place. From Thursday, Aug. 1 to Monday, Sept. 30, the second annual All Ohio Shop Hop is taking place, featuring more than 80 quilt shops from around the state of Ohio and many from right here in Amish Country.
Event-goers are referred to as “hoppers,” and the adventure begins by first purchasing your Shop Hop Magazine at any participating shop beginning in mid-June. For $11.95, the magazine includes your participation passport, which will be stamped at each shop you visit. Regional maps, store hours, patterns featuring the event’s exclusive fabric line and all the information you will need, including opportunities to win various prizes, are all included in the magazine.
“Prizes include all things sewing from serger and sewing machines, quilt kits, and gift baskets to experiences like retreat stays and more,” said Jen Gasper, director of operations at Shop Hop Inc. “The more shops you visit, the more opportunities there are to win.”
Quilt shop events are nothing new to Amish Country, but the Shop Hop has taken the idea to a whole new level for locals and visitors. Local shops offer their own discounts and raffles throughout the event, and each will carry the All Ohio Shop Hop fabric created specifically for the 2024 event, available while supplies last.
“We are also bringing back the collectible quilt squares for 2024,” Gasper said. “In addition to having your passport stamped, you may pick up a free quilt block from each shop you visit.”
That’s right: Each store has created a unique, 4-inch quilt block that captures the creativity and beauty of sewing and quilting. Combine the quilt blocks you collect with the exclusive All Ohio Shop Hop Fabrics to make a one-of-a-kind project.
“When you collect passport stamps from all stores in a particular region, turn in your passport at Shop Hop and we’ll send you a free, 6-inch, on-point quilt block to commemorate your accomplishment,” Gasper said. “And if you collect passport stamps from all participating stores in the All Ohio Shop Hop, you receive a free ‘I Finished Ohio’ state block.”
With all proceeds going back to participating stores, Shop Hop is a unique, fun way to support these often-beloved local quilt shops and the Amish community.
